Losing My (Digital) Memory...

I'm a serial backer-upper. I have two external hard drives to which I save all my photos, videos and other bulky files so that I don't have to keep them stored on my laptop and clogging up my memory.

So you can imagine my joy when I plugged in one of my hard drives to find that it wouldn't fire up. It hadn't been hit or dropped or even moved from sitting on the desk. It hasn't been exposed to heat or water or excessive light, nothing.

Now I'm having to look into disaster recovery options because I really don't want to lose all the content I have on there, that would be devastating! But if it's really expensive to do I'm going to have to weight up the cost with how much all those photos and videos really mean to me.

Should I start backing up all my files onto discs now too? Ridiculous!
